My sis-in-law gave me this awesome book for my Birthday called, Making Toys for Preschool Children. It has so many fun ideas and I'll be sharing them on here as we try them.
This activity is called Wiggle Worms. Here's what you do:
- Cut out strips of paper.
- Draw "wiggle worms" on some of them.
- (We also decided to draw hearts on the rest of them.)
- Put them in a bag.
To play:
- Sit in a circle on the floor
- Take turns passing the bag around the circle and pulling out a strip of paper.
- If you pull out a "wiggle worm" then everyone stands up and wiggles.
- If you pull out a heart then everyone gives each other a hug, or comes in for a big group hug.
This is a fun family activity too! And LM has put in a request to play it for Family Home Evening!
Do you like this idea?

I think this is just the sweetest activity for a family night or preschool circle time! I featured it at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LivingMontessoriNow
That is so cute - I wrote a song about wiggle worms and I will use this the next time we sing that song!
Love this idea! We will use this idea when we have our worm theme next month!

Love it! We are learning all about worms in my preschool class. Just wrote about Dirt Play Dough (http://www.heidisrecipes.com/2011/03/dirt-play-dough-recipe.html). Can't wait to play this game.
Such a cute game! We'll definitely be playing this. :) Thanks for sharing!
What a fun activity!

It's really fun!
Another fun twist to this activity is to write a letter on each strip and once a child pulls out a strip, they have to think of a movement that begins with that letter (for example, if they pull out Letter J, they can Jump, for letter R, they can Run in place, etc.). It's a great way to teach letter recognition and sound-symbol correspondence and its fun!!
