To help LM (and myself) be more motivated to clean around the house, I made chore sticks! I used these colored Popsicle sticks I got at the dollar store and wrote places or areas of the house on them. Each day we choose a stick, set the timer for 10-15 minutes, and get to work!
Right now my main purpose is to get some areas of the house clean that often get neglected, and have LM help out when he can. Therefore, I have some sticks that require a bit more of Mommy's attention. If you want your focus to be more on teaching children to clean, then you might want to only write things on the sticks that they can easily do. For example, your sticks could say things like:
- Pick up toys
- Sweep floor
- Straighten up Bookshelves
- etc.

This is such a neat idea! I used to use sticks like these in my classroom to select students randomly for things (answering a question, whose turn it was to do something special, etc.), but I really like what you are doing with them!
A neat way to make what could otherwise be mundane, a fun task.
I love when we get packaging that can be turned into hours of imaginative play. That tube sounds like it will be the new favourite "toy" for a while yet.
This is a cute idea, thanks for sharing!
So funny!! This is what we do for Saturday chores. i didn't have the colored ones lying around, so I used markers to color one end so we can turn it upside down when finished.
LOVE this idea. I've been struggling with the same thing and this is perfect!
Just found your blog. Love this idea! These will be a big help to ME as I often find myself at a loss as to what to clean today so I end up not doing anything. Gonna go find my colored sticks now...
Thanks!
